Piranhas swim tough against Louisburg

Even before they were able to complete their season opening meet with the Golden Valley Dolphins, the Paola Piranhas hit the road and traveled to Louisburg to take on the defending South Suburban League Champion Barracudas. This time Mother Nature cooperated, and although the Piranhas continue to swim with a smaller than usual team, they did swim to 13 individual first place times and took four first place ribbons in relay events.

WLH0729 The Piranhas picked up 116 points in the meet held at the Louisburg Aquatic Center on Saturday, June 19, 2010, and will now set their sights on a first time ever visit to Raytown and the Woodson Sharks on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Things started well individually for the Piranhas, as Brayden Hanf picked up a first place in the 8 and under girls division of the 25 yard freestyle with a time of 20.81 seconds. Hanf didn’t stop there, as she also finished first in the girls 8 and under 25 yard breast stroke with a time of 37.97 seconds and the girls 8 and under 25 yard backstroke with a time of 26.25 seconds.

She was not the only multiple event winner for the Piranhas, Rachel Schmidt took first place in the girls 15 and over 50 yard free style with a time of 30.88 seconds, as well as first in the girls 15 and over 50 yard backstroke with a time of 35.66 seconds and the girls 15 and over 200 yard individual medley with at time of 2:48.03.

Joining Schmidt and Hanf as multiple event winners were Jendra Teuscher (37.97) taking first place in the girls 15 and over 50 yard butterfly, as well as swimming a time of 43.59 seconds to take first place in the girls 15 and over 50 yard breast stroke, she added a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 32.51 seconds also. Schmidt and Teuscher gave the Piranhas a first place sweep of all five individual events in the girls 15 and over division. The pair also anchored the Piranha relay teams in that division which also took first place in the 200 yard medley relay (2:38.78) and the 200 yard freestyle relay (2:21.35).

Patrick Kennedy rounded out the Piranhas multiple first place finishers with top spots in the 15 and over boys 50 yard backs stroke with a time of 37.66 seconds and a first place in the boys 15 and over 200 yard individual medley with a time of 3:02.94. Kennedy also finished second in the 15 and over boys 50 yard breast stroke with a time of 38.22 seconds and swam on the first place 15 and over 200 yard freestyle relay team with a time of 2:30.22.

James Teuscher also had a good day in the pool for the Piranhas, as he took first place in the boys 15 and over 50 yard butterfly with a time of 34.75 seconds, and swam on the winning 200 yard freestyle relay team. Teuscher also picked up second place ribbons in the boys 15 and over 50 yard freestyle with a time of 30.47 seconds, and the 15 and over 200 yard individual medley with a time of 3:06.61.

Blaine Hanf swam to a pair of ribbons, including first place in the boys 11-12 year old 50 yard backstroke with a time of 50.44 seconds and a third place in the 11-12 year old 50 yard freestyle with at time of 42.57 seconds. Rounding out the event winners for the Piranhas was Whitney McDaniel who took first in the girls 13-14 year old 50 yard breast stroke with a time of 45.53 seconds. McDaniel also brought home a third place ribbon in the girls 13-14 year old 50 yard butterfly with a time of 44.82 seconds.

Other point earners for the Piranhas included: Skylar Williams (43.69) second in the girls 9-10 year old 50 yard freestyle and second in the 9-10 year old 50 yard breast stroke with a time of 59.15 seconds. Lindsay Rausch (36.21) second in the girls 11-12 year old 50 yard freestyle; Taylor Williams (50.30) second in the girls 11-12 year old 50 yard butterfly and third in the 11-12 year old 50 yard breast stroke with a time of 53.66 seconds. Aubrey Weatherbie (38.44) third in the girls 8 and under 25 yard breast stroke, and second in the girls 8 and under 25 yard back stroke with a time of 28.98 seconds; Megan Stover (53.22) third in the girls 11-12 year old 50 yard backstroke; and Emily Muckelbauer (48.50) second in the girls 13-14 year old 50 yard backstroke. Also earning points for the Piranhas was the girls 8 and under 100 yard medley relay team which finished first with at time of 2:33.78.

Boys 9-10 year old 50 yard freestyle: Jake McDaniel (53.34); Noah Oberg (56.70); Nate Walania (1:06.46) and McKinley Warrick (1:16.57).

Girls 11-12 year old 50 yard freestyle: Taylor Williams (41.50); Megan Stover (42.32); Rachel Reynolds (42.90) and Peyton Weatherbie (55.66).

Girls 13-14 year old 50 yard freestyle: Whitney McDaniel (37.57); Michelle Macke (38.90); Emily Muckelbauer (40.31); Alex Avenaim (41.88); Elizabeth Schroeder (41.91); Brittany Wellman (43.25); Mason Diebold (47.62); Megan Ingersoll (54.91) and Kayla Miller (56.44).

Boys 13-14 year old 50 yard freestyle: Bradford DeYoung (38.22).

Girls 15 & over 50 yard freestyle: Kayla Owens (36.44) and Kali Blanc (39.17).
