Panthers can't catch Tigers

The Paola Panther girls gave it their best effort, but fell short against the Fort Scott Tigers in the opening round of the Kansas Class 4A Sub-State tournament on Monday, March 1, 2010 in Fort Scott. The fell behind by 10 points midway through the second quarter and could not mount an effective comeback, before falling by a 46-36 final margin. Fort Scott will take on Spring Hill which, defeated the Osawtomie Trojans, on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Osawatomie.

Tigers claw Panthers 53-40

The Paola Panthers played one of their best ball games of the season on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Fort Scott in the opening round of the Kansas Class 4A Sub-State basketball tournament, unfortunately for the Panthers, it wasn't quite good enough as the Fort Scott Tigers ended the Panthers season with a 53-40 victory. The Panthers ended the season 8-11, while the Tigers will move on to play the winner of the Ottawa-Anderson County game on Friday in Osawatome

Karigan finishes sixth at 285

Tyler Henness and Cale Karigan are still wrestling in the Kansas State Class 4A Wrestling tournament in Salina. Both wrestlers, competing at 160 pounds and 285 pounds have one loss, but are still wrestling in the consolation bracket of the tournament. Heness and Karigan have a long way to go, but could wrestle to as high a finish as third place. Jamal Holloway and Spencer Trumbly both lost their first two matches and have been eliminated from the tournament.

Alex Weatherbie, riding the crest of two second place finishes in the State Swimming Championship, was named first team All-State on Saturday. Weatherbie finished second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.34 seconds behind Ryan Zwick of Wichita Kapun who finished in 22.24 seconds. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Weatherbie finished behind champion Phillip Steele of Salina South (48.43) with a time of 49.13 seconds.
