Oz-Paola boys show improvement

The Osawatomie-Paola Boys Swim Team continues to show improvement according to Head Coach Sarah Dorsett, as they swam in another competitive meet at home on January 22, 2009.

"Many guys improved," said Dorsett. "Our relay teams that want to get to state got mixed results."

The 200 Medley Relay team of Danile Dorsett, Jared Auten, Stetson Jackson and Eli Waddle continued to shave time from and improve towards the goal of a state qualifying time, but they are not quite there yet.

"Each of them (the 200 Medley Team) needs to take about 0.5 seconds from their split," Dorsett said. "I know they are capable of that."

The 200 Medley Relay team swam a 1:50.78, good enough for second place in the meet. The other relay teams in that event were the "B" Relay team of Alex Weatherbie, James Teuscher, Kyle Dietrich and Gus Hart, which turned in a 1:59.78, for fourth place; the "C" Relay team of Johs Cantu-Rhoads, Jon Hilliard, Jedd Froggett and Jesse Prue, which swam a 2:11.81 for 10th place and the "D" Relay team of Joey Clinton, Austin Johnson, Ryan McKinney and Bill Dillenbeck which placed 12th with at time of 2:24.56.

In the individual events, Alex Weatherbie contined to dominate the sprint race, the 50 Freestyle, taking first place overall with a time of 23.40. Jared Auten also contined his strong season with a second place finish in the 200 Individual Medley in a time of 2:12.04. Stetson Jackson swam a 1:12.93 in the 100 Breast Stroke to finish first, and Daniel Dorsett placed third in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:03.62. Gus Hart took the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:04.19 and Nathan Laudan finished well in the longer distance races, with a fifth in the 500 Freestyle in 6:47.06 and a sixth in the 200 Freestyle in 2:23.05.

The relay teams placed well, in additioin to the 200 Medley Relay, the "B" Relay team of Jackson, Dorsett, Waddle & Auten edged out the "A" Relay team of Hart, Teuscher, Weatherbie and Dietrich, 1:40.14 to 1:42.46 for first and second places in the event. The "A" Relay team of Hart, Auten, Weatherbie and Dietrich swam a 3:42.04 in the 400 Freestyle Relay, goo enough for second place overall.

"Overall, this meet was a bit of a disappointment, because we should have placed higher as a team," Dorsett said. "We will seek redemption at our last two meets."

The Osawatomie-Paola team will host two more meets in the month of February, the first on February 3rd and then will host the IL Championships on February 12. Any swimmers who have qualified will take part in the State Swimming Chamipionships on February 20, 2009.
