Cats fall to Spring Hill in three games |
||
The Louisburg Wildcats dropped a three game, 25-19, 18-25, 14-25 match to the Spring Hill Broncos during senior night competition at Spring Hill Tuesday night, October 6, 2009.
The Wildcats looked to have things going their way against the Broncos, jumping to a 10-3 lead in the first game, continuing to play without two starters, Colleen O’Brien and Taylor Brown. O’Brien sat out the Spring Hill Invitational Volleyball Tournament the previous Saturday with an injury, and Brown suffered an injury during the tournament. The Broncos were able to battle back and cut the lead to four points toward the middle part of the game, but could get no closer. The ‘Cats rode kills from Caitlin Schneider and Jaclyn Abrahamian along with a block and ace from Laurel Dixon to maintain the lead and take the opening game victory.
In the second game, the Wildcats were again strong from the start, opening a quick lead only to see the Broncos pull ahead by two points at 8-6. The ‘Cats went on a 5-0 run on the strength of a block and then four straight aces by Marisa Mackey to open a three point lead.
The Broncos took over from that point, outscoring the Wildcats 12-3 to take the lead and eventually the game at 25-18. In the third and deciding game, the Wildcats were never really a factor, as the Broncos cruised to an easy win at 25-14.
The Wildcats will have ample opportunity to face the Broncos again, as they will square off against each other again on Tuesday, October 20th at St. James Academy, as well as in the Frontier League Tournament on Saturday, October 17 at Louisburg, and the Sub-State tournament on Saturday, October 24, at Spring Hill.
