Wildcats blow past Bulldogs 40-0

Although not spoken, but they know deep down this should be an easy game, the Louisburg Wildcat football team sputtered at the beginning and made it look like Anderson County could stay in the game. It was not to be, as they eliminated their mistakes and had Anderson County on the ropes by half time, with a score of 33-0.

WLH0017 Alex Gentges made an early momentum changing fumble recovery and 34 yard touchdown run that started a five touchdown first half for the Wildcats. It wasn’t as bad for Anderson County as it was for Baldwin as Bishop Meige put 34 points on them in the first quarter. Louisburg scored once in the third quarter on a nine yard touchdown run by Ryan Roberts, his second of the night, that ended the scoring. Louisburg eventually shut out Anderson County winning 40-0 and claimed the District title.

Senior quarterback Drew Harding accounted for two of the five first half touchdowns on runs of 15 and 51 yards and sophomore Garrett Griffin making the longest run of the night of 58 yards also in the first half. The Cat’s successful running game was matched by their season long stingy defense. There may not be a better front four in Kansas Class 4A than the group Louisburg puts on the field led by junior Tyler Ewy.

There is a wide margin in the quality of Kansas Class 4A football teams. Seemingly this disparity needs to be addressed as nothing positive is accomplished by either team when one gets blown off the field by another. The Wildcats next opponent, Columbus brings an 8-2 record to Louisburg Saturday night. It is difficult to predict how good the southeastern Kansas teams are as Paola smoked Chanute 48-14, and both Chanute and Coffeyville beat Columbus earlier in the season. TheWichita Eagle does not give much respect to teams in the outlying Kansas City area. Perhaps they should have a look a Louisburg or Bishop Miege before considering their rankings.

Louisburg is getting better every game this season. Drew Harding’s maturation at quarterback and the talent and confidence of the defense is at an all time high. Columbus should be a formidable opponent, but if Louisburg plays mistake free football and stays creative on offense, they are at home and will be tough to beat.
