Week Ten - Bi-District Playoffs

Paola (6-3 / 2-1) @ Chanute (8-1 / 3-0)

The Panthers took it on the chin last week in the rain, muck and mud at Louisburg. The loss to the Wildcats means the Panthers must go on the road to face a tough Chanute Blue Comets team. Chanute has faced five playoff teams during the regular season, but the traditional Southeast Kansas powers were not all that powerful, so one has to question the strength of the Chanute schedule. Chanute is a balanced offensive team, while the Panthers like to line up and run the ball. This game should be ineresting.

Anderson County (7-2 / 2-1) @ Louisburg (8-1 / 3-0)

Anderson County has a good record, but they've only played two teams with a winning record, and those were both losses. The Bulldogs seven wins came against teams with a combined 15-48 record. Anderson County playes in the Pioneer League, and it's been well documented what the Wildcats do to Pioneer League teams.

Bill's Pick - Louisburg -- Jim's Pick -

Baldwin (2-7 / 2-1) @ Bishop Miege (7-2 / 3-0)

The Bulldogs didn't pick up their first win till the districts, and won just enough to advance. This is a classic example of the Kansas District system at its best. Two wins and you move on, qualified or not. Tim Grunhard's Stage must be licking their chops!

Bill's Pick - Miege -- Jim's Pick -

DeSoto (4-5 / 2-1) @ Eudora (7-2 / 3-0)

This is a rematch of a week two matchup between the Wildcats and Cardinals. It didn't go well for DeSoto in week two at home, as they fell to Eudora 27-6. The Cardinals have lost only to Gardner and Louisburg, and should have no problem picking up their second victory of the season against DeSoto.

Bill's Pick - Eudora -- Jim's Pick -

Osage City (6-3 / 2-1) @ Central Heights (4-5 / 2-1)

The Osage City Indians travel to Central Heights to take on the Vikings, and sport a 6-3 record and have probably played a tougher schedule that the Vikings who hail from the Pioneer League. Plus, the Indians fell to undefeated Silver Lake by a score of just 28-7 last week. The Indians should roll.

Bill's Pick - Osage City -- Jim's Pick -

Jayhawk Linn (2-7 / 2-1) @ Silver Lake (9-0 / 3-0)

The Eagles of Silver Lake have allowed only 79 points on defense in their nine victories on the season. The Jayhawks have scored just 46 points all season long, including 32 in their three district games. In their first six games the Jayhawks put just 14 points on the board and were shut out four times. This one could get really ugly!

Bill's Pick - Silver Lake -- Jim's Pick -

FRIDAY NIGHT - Schlagle (6-3 / 2-1) @ Gardner (9-0 / 3-0)

The Gardner Trailblazers get a couple of weeks to breath before a projected rematch of a classic game between Gardner and Aquinas. This week Schlagle is the next victim in the Blazer sights, then comes the winner of the Topeka Seaman vs. Sumner Academy matchup. Aquinas must make it past Mill Valley and the winner of the Turner and Shawnee Heights game, but if the brackets play out, Friday, November 20 should see a re-match between the Saints and Blazers for the right to face Hutchinson in the state championship game. If the Blazers get that far, that should be a heck of a football game.

Bill's Pick - Gardner -- Jim's Pick -

Pigskin Picks of the Week

Each week we're going to look into our "crystal ball" so to speak and try and give a quick overview of the games on tap in the Frontier League and Pioneer League. We'll quickly break down the game as we see it and go out on a limb and pick a winner. We're not going to be so bold as to predict a score, just looking for the winner may tax our brains to the limit. We hope you enjoy our "Pigskin Picks of the Week."
