Week Eight

Paola (5-2) @ Pairie View (1-6)

The Panthers are fresh off a 54-6 pasting of previously unbeaten and fifth ranked Osawatomie, and the Buffalos are coming off a 49-6 defeat at the hands of the Louisburg Wildcats. The Buffalos are just not very good this year, as they have managed only one win on the season, defeating Jayhawk Linn (hasn’t everybody?). The Panthers should rolll here and set up a district championship battle at Louisburg next Thursday.

Bill's Pick - Paola -- Jim's Pick - Paola (48-0)

Osawatomie (6-1) @ Louisburg (6-1)

The Trojans were flying high this year, until they stepped away from the Pioneer League and moved up to play the big boys in district play. Osawatomie was unbeaten and ranked fifth in the state until they traveled to Paola and again found out why they left the Frontier League. The road gets no easier this week, in fact, it might just be harder against a very good Louisburg team. The Wildcats are not going to look past the Trojans, but they know there’s a showdown with Paola looming on the horizon. The Wildcats should roll.

Bill's Pick - Louisburg -- Jim's Pick - Louisburg (42-0)

Ottawa (1-6) @ Pittsburg (3-4)

The Cyclones have already had one milestone win this season, as they snapped a 33 game losing streak by beating Baldwin three weeks ago. The Purple Dragons have not exactly been world beaters this year, with a 3-4 recored that includes wins over Labette County, Fort Scott and Coffeyville - Field Kindley, none of which are power houses this season. By the way, what’s happened to Southeast Kansas football this year? There just doesn’t seem to be a lot of high quality teams in the area this year. This should be a good game, Ottawa has been playing everybody tough, that won’t change this week.

Bill's Pick - Pittsburg -- Jim's Pick - Pittsburg (35-14)

Santa Fe Trail (0-7) @ Eudora (5-2)

Put this one down in the win column for the Cardinals. Earlier in the season we were wondering if there was anyone out there worse than Baldwin and Prairie View, it looks like the answer is Santa Fe Trail, the Chargers have had 75, 62 and 60 points put on the board against them this year, the Cardinals might have to add another column to the scoreboard for this one.

Bill's Pick - Eudora -- Jim's Pick - Eudora (48-0)

DeSoto (3-4) @ Spring Hill (2-5)

The Wildcats and the Broncos, if you’re looking for an evenly matched high school football game, just to go watch on Friday night, this might be the one. Both teams can advance in the district, DeSoto might be able to squeak out a district second place finish if they down the Broncos. Spring Hill could take that second place district spot if they manage to win the next two weeks, so there’s something on the line in this game.

Bill's Pick - Spring Hill -- Jim's Pick - DeSoto (17-14)

Perry Lecompton (1-6) @ Baldwin (1-6)

This is one of those times that the Kansas State Football district arrangement either makes you scratch your head, or jump for joy, depending on your point of view. The Bulldogs of Baldwin didn’t come close to sniffing a victory in the first six games of the season, but they destroyed Santa Fe Trail 62-10 last week and now get a down Perry-Lecompton team this week. This is the irony of things in Kansas, if the Bulldogs win this game, regardless of how they do in the final game of the season against Eudora, and they will advance in the Class 4A playoffs. It’s a matter of how you do in the last three games of the season, not the first six, just ask Osawatomie.

Bill's Pick - Baldwin -- Jim's Pick - Baldwin (9-0)

Aquinas (7-0) @ Gardner Edgerton (7-0)

This in THE game of the area this week. Makes us almost want to sneak out of our games and run up to Gardner to watch. Both of these teams will go far in Class 5A, but we doubt either is strong enough to take on Hutchinson.

Bill's Pick - Gardner -- Jim's Pick - Gardner (17-14)

Anderson County (5-2) @ Fort Scott (1-6)

Earlier we asked what has happened to Southeast Kansas football this year, and this game kind of bears that out. Fort Scott is normally tough, and has struggled to a one win season to date, with their lone win coming against Parsons, another team which has not won a game on the season. The Bulldogs should have no problem here.

Bill's Pick - Anderson County -- Jim's Pick - Anderson County (14-7)

Central Heights (3-4) @ Jayhawk Linn (1-6)

The Jayhawk Linn Jayhawks found a team worse than they were last week, as they doubled their point total for the SEASON in a 14-6 win over Burlington. Central Heights hasn’t exactly set the world on fire this year, but they will have enough to spank the Jayhawks.

Bill's Pick - Central Heights -- Jim's Pick - Central Heights (21-7)

Wellsville (3-4) @ Osage City (5-2)

This may be another good game between two pretty evenly matched teams. The Eagles may have played a little tougher competition than Osage City, so records may not mean a lot. The game is on the road so give the advantage in a close game to the home team, Osage City.

Bill's Pick - Wellsville -- Jim's Pick - Osage City (14-10)

Pigskin Picks of the Week
MCSportscom

Each week we're going to look into our "crystal ball" so to speak and try and give a quick overview of the games on tap in the Frontier League and Pioneer League. We'll quickly break down the game as we see it and go out on a limb and pick a winner. We're not going to be so bold as to predict a score, just looking for the winner may tax our brains to the limit. We hope you enjoy our "Pigskin Picks of the Week."
