Osawatomie (6-0) @ Paola (4-2)
This one boils down to this, is an impressive 6-0 record produce a better prepared team than a less impressive 4-2 record? The Trojans have plowed through the Pioneer League without a loss, but they have been challenged, coming from behind in three of six wins and going to double overtime in one of those victories. The Panthers have faced a tough league slate to date, but probably should be 5-1 after letting one get away at home against Eudora. Both teams will be ready, which one is better prepared?
Bill's Pick - Paola -- Jim's Pick - Osawatomie (17-14)
Louisburg (5-1) @ Prairie View (1-5)
The Buffalos have been woeful, and the Wildcats have been good. Not scary, outstanding, but good enough to roll through the Frontier league (with the exception of Gardner) without breaking too much of a sweat. This one will be easy, the next two in district play will be harder..
Bill's Pick - Louisburg -- Jim's Pick - Louisburg (42-0)
Spring Hill (2-4) @ Bishop Miege (4-2)
The Broncos now have to go play against the “Big Boys” so to speak for the next couple of weeks. Next year, they come south for districts, but in 2009 they still have to see the likes of Miege and St. James. The Stags of Miege have lost just twice and both have been close. The Broncos unfortunately bring too little to the table to play with the Stags.
Bill's Pick - Miege -- Jim's Pick - Miege (37-7)
DeSoto (2-4) @ St. James Academy (4-2)
St. James has lost just twice this year to O’Hara and Tonganoxie, and it’s really unclear exactly what that tells you about the Thunder. The 4-2 record may be a bit misleading, but the Wildcats haven’t exactly been world beaters either, with their two wins coming against Baldwin and Ottawa, the bottom two teams in the Frontier League. Despite the records, this one could be a close game.
Bill's Pick - St. James -- Jim's Pick - St. James (35-7)
Eudora (4-2) @ Perry-Lecompton (1-5)
The Cardinals have lost only to Gardner (hasn’t everybody?) and Louisburg. They made out like a bandit and stole a victory on the road at Paola, then lost to the Wildcats the next week at home, go figure. The Kaws of Perry-Lecompton have only a 21-19 victory over Lansing to show for the first six weeks of the season. This one could be over early.
Bill's Pick - Eudora -- Jim's Pick - Eudora (28-0)
Aquinas (6-0) @ Ottawa (1-5)
This one will be over early, as the Saints have run through the entire Blue Valley school district without a loss, including a 20-19 win last week against Blue Valley High. Ottawa broke their 33 game losing streak against Balwin a couple of weeks ago, but a new streak has started, and it won’t get any easier for the Cyclones.
Bill's Pick - Aquinas -- Jim's Pick - Aquinas (56-7)
Pittsburg (3-3) @ Gardner (6-0)
The Purple Dragons are the next victim of the Gardner Trailblazers, who are setting themselves up for a huge showdown next week at against Aquinas at Gardner. Look for that one to be a matchup of unbeatens. The Dragons have lost this year to everyone down south who is anyone, and beaten teams that are not very good. Gardner won’t have any problems here.
Bill's Pick - Gardner -- Jim's Pick - Gardner (38-14)
Baldwin (0-6) @ Santa Fe Trail (0-6)
The only positive thing about this game is that one team is going to get a win. Neither have been very good this year, Baldwin even let Ottawa snap a 33 game losing streak when they played two weeks ago. One team will be happy and the other will continue to play out the season.
Bill's Pick - Santa Fe Trail -- Jim's Pick - Baldwin (14-7)
Chanute (5-1) @ Anderson County (5-1)
The Blue Comets are once again one of the top teams in Southeast Kansas, but one wonders how in the world they lost to Labette County in the second game of the season. Anderson County had Osawatomie on the ropes in the opening game of the year, and let the Trojans escape with a four point victory, with the possible exception of Osawatomie at Paola, this game may be one of the best this week.
Bill's Pick - Chanute -- Jim's Pick - Chanute (24-14)
Eureka (1-5) @ Central Heights (2-4)
Here’s a game that we know very little about. Central Heights played tough against Osawatomie last week, for a quarter, Eureka hasn’t come close to winning since a week one shut out of Yates Center.
Bill's Pick - Central Heights -- Jim's Pick - Central Heights (14-7)
Jayhawk Linn (0-6) @ Burlington (1-5)
Burlington can probably look to pick up win number two and a 1-0 record in district play after this game, as the Jayhawks have not been close to winning all season long. To say the Jayhawks are struggling offensively is an understatement, as they have scored only two touchdowns and 14 total points all season long.
Bill's Pick - Burlington -- Jim's Pick - Burlinton (14-0)
Wellsville (3-3) @ Silver Lake (6-0)
The Eagles were a blocked punt away from handing Osawatomie a homecoming loss at Osawatomie two week ago. Silver Lake is their old dominate self, really not coming close to losing all season long. History tells us a 6-0 Silver Lake team is better than a 6-0 Osawatomie team, it’s doubtful the Eagles will lead with less than two minutes to play in the game this week.
Bill's Pick - Silver Lake -- Jim's Pick - Silver Lake (42-7)
Each week we're going to look into our "crystal ball" so to speak and try and give a quick overview of the games on tap in the Frontier League and Pioneer League. We'll quickly break down the game as we see it and go out on a limb and pick a winner. We're not going to be so bold as to predict a score, just looking for the winner may tax our brains to the limit. We hope you enjoy our "Pigskin Picks of the Week."
