Week Six - Frontier League:
Baldwin (0-5) @ Louisburg (4-1)
The Wildcats got back on track last week after their 40-0 shellacking at Gardner to defeat Eudora and pull into a two way tie for second place with the Cardinals. The Bulldogs made history by being the first team to lose to Ottawa in 33 games, that’s right, the Cyclone hadn’t won a game in nearly FOUR years! Guess that tells you how good Baldwin is!
Bill's Pick - Louisburg -- Jim's Pick - Louisburg (28-7)
Spring Hill (2-3) @ Paola (3-2)
The Broncos are coming to Paola to take on the Panthers on Homecoming night at Panther Stadium. Spring Hill has beaten the bad teams in the league and lost to the good teams, this one shouldn’t be close, but the Panthers could be looking ahead to a visit from unbeaten Osawatomie next week. The Panthers will take care of business in this on and then prepare for Oz.
Bill's Pick - Paola -- Jim's Pick - Paola (17-14)
Gardner-Edgerton (5-0) @ Eudora (4-1)
The Trailblazers will travel to Eudora to take on the Cardinals in a game that two weeks ago looked like a showdown of unbeatens. Gardner has held up their end of the bargain, steamrolling opponents on their farewell to the Frontier League tour. The Cardinals were brought back to earth last week by Louisburg. There’s no reason to believe that Eudora will pull the upset.
Bill's Pick - Gardner -- Jim's Pick - Gardner (45-10)
DeSoto (1-4) @ Ottawa (1-4)
DeSoto lost a heartbreaker to Paola as a last minute field goal was no good. Ottawa should be brimming with confidence after breaking their 33 game losing streak. Look for the Cyclones to start a new streak, a winning streak, and pick up their second straight victory.
Bill's Pick - Ottawa -- Jim's Pick - DeSoto (21-7)
Week Six - Pioneer League:
Central Heights (2-3) @ Osawatomie (5-0)
The Central Heights Vikings will come into Lynn Dickey field representing the last hurdle in the Trojans march to an unbeaten Pioneer League record. Well, that’s not entirely accurate, the Trojans still have to play Prairie View, who’s lost to everyone this year . . . get the picture? The Vikings have dropped games to Anderson County, Wellsville and Iola, all Trojan victims too, Oz holds serve and heads to Paola next week undefeated.
Bill's Pick - Osawatomie -- Jim's Pick - Osawatomie (27-14)
Anderson County (4-1) @ Wellsville (3-2)
This may be the game of the week in either league. We’d have voted for Gardner vs. Eudora two weeks ago, but the Cardinals loss to Louisburg took some of the lustre off that game. This game pits 4-1 Anderson County against 3-2 Wellsville, which was a blocked punt away from defeating Osawatomie last week. Anderson County pushed the Trojans to the limit in the first game of the season before falling by four, so these two teams can play a little. Look for Wellsville to pull the mild upset, as they down the Bulldogs in Wellsville.
Bill's Pick - Anderson County -- Jim's Pick - Anderson County (14-13)
Prairie View (0-5) @ Jayhawk Linn (0-5)
What can we say about this game, other than, like last week’s matchup between Baldwin and Ottawa, someone’s going to get their first victory. Jayhawk has scored a grand total of six . . . yes you heard right, six points on the season, while giving up 197 points, that’s nearly 40 points a game. The Jayhawks defensive low for the season was 21 points, which came against Uniontown, which also was the only game where the Jayhawks reached the end zone. The Buffalos haven’t exactly been an offensive juggernaut, putting up 57 points in five games, while allowing 214 points. Look for someone to get healthy offensively, probably the Buffalos.
Bill's Pick - Prairie View -- Jim's Pick - Prairie View (20-0)
Each week we're going to look into our "crystal ball" so to speak and try and give a quick overview of the games on tap in the Frontier League and Pioneer League. We'll quickly break down the game as we see it and go out on a limb and pick a winner. We're not going to be so bold as to predict a score, just looking for the winner may tax our brains to the limit. We hope you enjoy our "Pigskin Picks of the Week."
